UNP losing more heavyweights?

The United National Party (UNP) seems to be on the verge of losing more of its heavyweights. Sources from the Central Provincetold Adaderana that another strongman from the party would join the government, and that the announcement would probably be made on Monday.

The sources also said that most UNP members were not happy over the party not contesting the upcoming Presidential election by putting forward a candidate through the party.

Kurunegala district UNP Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando who earlier spoke out against the move to support Sarath Fonseka as the common candidate under the swan symbol has said that this is the first time that the UNP under the elephant symbol is not contesting a crucial poll in the country.

Mr. Fernando is to be joined by another stalwart of the UNP and several others who are expected to announce their stance tomorrow (Monday).
