Troops capture LTTE ‘police station’ at Puthukkudiyirippu

Advancing 58 division troops captured an LTTE terrorist strongpoint after hours of heavy confrontation ensued with LTTE since this morning (March 15) at Puthukkudiyirippu. Infantrymen of the 8th Gajaba Regiment (GR), pushed into the well fortified LTTE position reportedly killing at least nine terrorists and injuring many others. Several soldiers also received minor injuries during the confrontation, security sources said.

According to military, the captured base was one of the LTTE's so called 'police stations' located along the Pudumathalan road that was shifted from Mulliyaweli. Troops are now consolidating positions in the area.
